ARTBAT FEST 5
2014
By Christina Steinbrecher-Pfandt (Germany)
Smart City is a contemporary art project that examines the ways art can generate socially and environmentally beneficial behavioral change and influence the development of an interactive infrastructure in urban environments.

Founded on the principle of using art and design to curate and care for public spaces, the project places creative disciplines at the heart of its sustainability agenda.

Smart City assesses the ongoing as well as potential contribution of public art to the ecologically sustainable and socially engaging development of Almaty and cities in general.

Almaty's population is increasingly concerned with pollution, waste, and city infrastructure. Significant improvements are required to raise the inhabitants' living conditions.

Public art ties the concerns of the city dwellers with the need for public spaces and communication.
